Meet Your Master Teasers!

(this is still Suki, posting off another account)

I'm gonna do a Me, I'm Not on this one. For everyday I don't post this chapter, I will give you guys two teasers. Trent's a bit of a sadistic bastard in this one.
I'm giving you guys pretty meaty teasers because you've been waiting since November for this chapter.

*

DAY ONE:
teaser one:
"Shut up now, this'll only hurt a minute."

Before he could protest, I hit him hard in the temple with my gun. He was out cold less than a second later, his head lolling on my arm. I grabbed his limp arms, locked together by handcuffs, and started to drag him across the hall. Blood dripped down the side of his head, settling amongst the thickly carpeted floor. It sort of looked like a glass of red wine that had been knocked down, spilled all over the white carpeting.

The blood didn't bother me. They'd figure out he was missing soon enough, even without a trail of blood leaving his office.
teaser two:
"Puget, take vanguard. Behind me, check out for any followers, got it?"

"Got it."
One step at a time, down into the belly of the beast, into the bowels of Hell. It was going to be a not-so-easy out, and I didn't want to further injure myself so soon into the mission. The stairs felt longer this time, an eternity of a slope that would never take me to my destination. And just as that thought crossed my mind, I was on even footing again. Now it was just into the blood bath, to see all the sights a once-battle has to offer.

DAY TWO:

teaser three:
Davey stood at the mouth of the hallway, his battered combat boots standing in a puddle of blood. Now it was time to cut through the carnage, see what we had to see.
"Come on, lead the way," Davey said, his voice strong. He hadn't spoken since... probably since Billie Joe and Tré had been shot down. An eternity ago, only in a few hours. He grinned at me, stepping aside to show the trail of death we'd left behind. Body upon body of soldiers, all soaked in blood. I noticed, too, that Davey was bleeding from a few wounds -- a graze on the side of his stomach, a clean cut through two parts of his right arm.
I took my place at the head of the group, again, just like our escape from the Exterminal: a gun in my hand, sweat running down my back, and a mission against the government to accomplish.
teaser four:
"Well then, let's go," I sighed, taking my first step into the deep, dark unknown-but-known.
Squich, squelch, crack!
The sound of the bodies breaking under our shoes. Nothing could stop us from making out journey, nothing short of Death himself coming down here and stealing our souls.

No-one said a word, no-one tried to breathe the sickening air that was filled with decay. Thankfully, our boots were high enough so that the blood and soft flesh would only cake on the outside and not seep in. Hopefully -- though I was never one to hope -- the boots would be reusable, what with all the shit that was on them at this point, only a few meters in, and what would attach itself by the end of the tunnel. Vaguely, I wondered why I hadn't thought of stealing gas masks. Then I remembered that I hadn't thought we'd have to go out over a sea of dead soldiers' bodies.

Year Zero Hiatus.

As posted on my AFIslash bio...

YEAR ZERO: I've hit a major writer's block that will take much trippy dreams, music, and Write or Die to fix. It's gonna be on hiatus till at least next summer. I apologize for the delay, guys. Just can't get back in the swing of the characters. :-(

This isn't indefinite like HDS (well, HDS was scrapped). Just six months, people. Let me get my writing shit together.

I miss writing it just as much as y'all miss reading it.

Editing is Hell.

So an update on my status.

I hope to churn out YZ over Winter Break. I've been having trouble getting into the characters.

So for now, I'm editing 21CB. I'm making it an orig.fic. Christian et Gloria <3 It's hell though. Plowing through 10.5. Of course, I'm doing the rewriting over WB too.

Just Zeroes and Ones

SHINY BANNER IS SHINY. For the entire series...

Working on chapter 11. Okay, really, I've been listening to NIN and slacking off... but... I'm trying to work on it?

Again, I hope to finish Year Zero by the end of the year. At this point, I've got another 6 chapters to write (well, I already have bits of 11, 14, 15, and 16 written...) and then I'm done... feels strange since I've been working on this since July, really. Year Zero is my baby... well, when it's done, we get Year Zero II! Hopefully. If Trent releases said album soon... otherwise I may use another album that may get switched up. Right now, I'm looking at Green Day Warning and AFI Crash Love.

11 -- Meet Your Master

(trent's pov)

Countdown to the end
And we’re headed there faster
Come on down my friend
It’s time to meet your master…
-- ‘Meet Your Master’ by Nine Inch Nails

With a sick grin twisting upon my lips, I walked fully into the room, never letting my finger off the trigger of my gun. I heard the soft footsteps, muffled by the thick, lush carpet, as Jade followed me. Not losing my target, I grabbed one of the two spare guns out of the bag and passed it back to him. Jade took it with shaking hands and, I assumed, aimed it at the same target that I had.

A certain Mr. Wilbert Bray, the official Overseer of National Manufacturing for the Bureau. He was the perfect title, as Jade and I had decided -- he was important to have a ‘national’ title, but he was unimportant enough to not be heavily guarded.

Okay, I’ll cut to the chase -- he wasn’t guarded at all. That single goddamn door was the only thing protecting him, and we all see how well that protected him. But he would be delightful as a captive -- with the right amount of torture, he would rat out all the Government’s secrets. Well, most of them, at least. The important ones.

He seemed to wilt in his chair as I pulled out that cold pair of handcuffs from my bag. I just grinned at him as he sat, frozen and glued to his seat. A small part of me pitied him. But, then again, that part of me was small and the rest of me knew that he was feeding this ugly machine of hatred and lies. He was part of what had lead me here.

Too bad, suckers, what comes around goes around. Or whatever that saying is.

Concerning "Meet Your Master"

...

Oh god, yes, something is wrong. Very wrong...

*cough* I'm not sure I'll be able to finish it by November.

So, I'm posting all I have written. If I write anymore, I'll post it here, too :)

Year Zero is hiatus-ing through November. You can read my NaNovel at classofthirteen.blogspot.com.

The next post will be documenting MYM, unedited :)

Giving Credit Where Credit is Due

AKA: My big-ass long post about my Year Zero inspirations.

The biggest inspiration I have had for this was where I got the inspiration to write the original "Survivalism" one-shot. And that was the actual Survivalism music video.
Long story short, there's a few clips of boysex. I made them Davey and Jade and told the story of the music video from their POV.

In a similar strain of inspiration is the YA novel, Little Brother, by Cory Doctorow. The arrest scene in "Survivalism" was -- subconsciously at the time -- influenced by the one in here. Read it. It's hella amazing and you can download it -- legally -- for free at this link.

The album Year Zero itself once I started writing the full fic and not just "Survivalism" and a couple of prequels.

The Year Zero ARG. Especially...
exterminal.net (water poisoning, some of the way people are treated, etc)
artisresistance.com
iamtryingtobelieve.com (the site that Nils sent Davey to in Hyperpower! as well as Parepin vs non-Parepin behavior, and Opal = Parepin)
gracetheteacher.com (very, very sad but helped me with my Parepin vs non-Parepin emotional states)
thepriceoftreason.com (punishments, other stories)
cedocore.com (Prozira!!, more on Parepin, a bit on Opal = Parepin)
[big thank you to NINWiki for keeping this organized!)

Bits and pieces of other Nine Inch Nails albums and songs, in particular...
Most of The Slip
"The Hand That Feeds" from [With_Teeth]
"March of the Pigs' from The Downward Spiral
"The Fragile" & "Into the Void" from The Fragile (major in creating Davey's character)

My friend, Losty, actually. When we put out heads together, we created some insane Presence-related conspiracies which have the potential to show up in Year Zero.

The Maximum Ride books, to a minor extent. Mainly the surveillance.

Green Day. "Viva La Gloria!" is one of the songs I listened to while working on chapter 16 (heh). Between 21st Century Breakdown and American Idiot (and "Minority!") there is quite a bit of Green Day on my "Year Zero Fic Mix." (oh yes, either Davey or Jade was in the class of '13 XD...Davey, I think).

Individual Songs:
-- The Matchbox 20 song "How Far We've Come." It's about the end of the world. Exactly.
-- "Testify" by Rage Against the Machine
-- "Vertigo," U2
-- Interestingly enough, "Alice of Human Sacrifice" by Vocaloid. The Red Alice is a lot like Trent, it seems, and the Blue Alice reminds me of Davey.

I have a feeling that another scifi book I'm reading, The Tomorrow Code by Brian Falkner, will have an effect on this.

Banners

here's one my friend, Lilacheart, made me:

And one I made:

Me, I'm Not Teasers!

OKAY. I am so so so soooooooo sorry that this has been taking so long. I've been writing this for like 5 days now and I'm barely past a page. x_x

So, teasers. I'll add to this every day until it's posted.

DAY ONE:
teaser one:
For the second time that day, I’d seen Trent kill someone. For the second time that day, the sound of a gunshot rang in my ears. For the second time that day, blood and flesh covered floors and walls. And for the second time that day, Trent stood above a bleeding corpse, holding a gun.

teaser two:
"I'm just so, so afraid.”
"Sometimes, the best part of anything is being scared," I replied, meeting that steady gaze of his.

DAY TWO:
teaser three:
“We’re leaving, so screw you,” Trent half-growled in reply, pulling his trigger while aiming at this unknown soldier’s heart.
“Fu--!” was the only noise, other than the gunshot, that was heard as the soldier fell to the dusty ground, forever silenced and bleeding.

teaser four:
"Listen, Dave, let's just escape and think about Trent later, okay?" I suggested, squeezing his fragile hand. With his other hand, Davey wiped away some of the tears. The expression in his eyes was now one of resigned protest as he squeezed my hand back.

DAY FOUR:
teaser five:
“RUN!” Trent shouted as red lights began flashing their bloody flares in sync with the sirens’ wails. Gripping Davey’s hand with my pained but not broken-slash-disjointed hand, I ran out of the cell and down the hallway Davey clung to my hand and followed, his sobs stifled by our run and the wailing sirens. .My bare feet scraped on the rocks and dirt as I went along. A good few feet ahead of us was Trent, also running, who was still holding the gun.

DAY FIVE:
teaser six:
As I approached Trent and the gun, the smell of smoke and burning fabric and burning flesh drifted down the hallway.

These are out of order. They go like this: 5, 3, 1, 2, 4, 6

Vessel Teasers!

This is for those of you hooked on Year Zero. It will NOT be updated today, tomorrow at the earliest, so I'm giving you all a few teasers to sate your hunger for more.

The First Official Hundam Chapter includes...

The Cause of Hunter's Death:
“When?” Davey wondered aloud, fear creeping into his whispered tone. “When was he killed and who was the bastard who did it?!”
[...]
“February fourteenth,” Adam finally told us, “he was getting ‘interviewed’ -- he died at three PM of water poisoning.”

“Water poisoning? What’s--?”

“It’s when you drink so much water that your electrolytes become severely unbalanced,” Trent answered. “Not a fun way to die, but a favorite here.”
Hundam Admitted!:
“Funny, isn’t it,” Adam remarked after a minute of silence, “that he died the Valentine’s Day after I realized I loved him…”
...okay, those are the only two excerpts from the chapter that I'm posting. For now. I'll post some more if I don't update it tomorrow.

Hundamn

IT HAS BEEN confirmed today at 2 in the afternoon that Suki Self-Destruct's widely acclaimed serial science fiction, "Year Zero", will indeed have a Hundam (denoting the homoseuxal relationship between Hunter Burgan and Adam Carson of AFI) sideplot to complement the main Javey (relationship between Jade Puget and Davey Havok of AFI) focus.

Ms. Self-Destruct (Suki to her friends, signing autographs and reviews with S. Self-Destruct) commented on the matter: "Why else would Adam be so...distraught over Hunter's death? Sure, they were best friends, but seriously. Going as far as to join the military to forget about it? Are you kidding me, the Hundam is evident."

This was first revealed publicly in her Twitter -- a popular microblogging social networking site -- update, saying this: "Hahaha diving into the epic Hundam part of Year Zero! oops, did I say a little too much...?" which was posted around 2 PM (Arizona time).

When the next chapter of "Year Zero" is posted on the popular fanfiction site AFISlash, the 'Hundam' tag will be added to it.

The Good Soldier tidbits

I posted tidbits from chapter for on twitter tonight.

This:
“Fairly simple. Find their weak point and -- strike!” Trent replied, laughing a bit.

and:
He’s bleeding, I thought, he’s bleeding and possibly dying and I can’t do anything and oh my God he’s bleeding. He’s bleeding.

this was given to some of my friends:
“What the hell was that for?!” Adam yelled, grabbing my arm as I moved to pull back. He twisted it backwards quickly, pushing it hard against my back and I nearly screamed in pain. A gruesome pop! sounded as my shoulder slid out of its socket and dislocated. Now, I was looking down at the ground, blinking through tears of pain and trying to make it hurt less.

I AM Working On It!

Proof that I'm working on Year Zero:
a lovely B&W pic of the hand-written last paragraph of the last chapter, secured into my notebook with red duct tape.
And next, you see the handwritten form of a chunk of chapter four. :-)

Year Zero: Chapter Three -- Survivalism (extended)

I got my propaganda I got revisionism
I got my violence in high-def ultra realism
All a part of this great nation
I got my fist I got my plan I got survivalism…
-- “Survivalism” by Nine Inch Nails

Davey and I walked home from the meeting, his hips swaying almost unnoticeably. Both of our faces carried the dull, complacent and contented look that people who actually drank the water had. It was all faked, though, and neither of us had consumed a drop of Parepin in the past three months.

Ah, Parepin. A lovely, diluted form of that wonderful drug Opal. Well, that was just our little theory, but it worked well and made sense..

We passed a spray-painted Art is Resistance flag and Davey grinned ever so slightly. I shook my head to signify that this wasn’t the place to show affection to the resistance (but I still think that the security creeps mistook it for a sign of disapproval). Davey’s smile relaxed back to his perfected Parepin expression -- vaguely happy. I continued to feel tense after that, and I could feel the discomfort Davey felt.

We finished our walk back to our apartment complex -- short, silent, and paranoid. Together, Davey and I stepped into the old elevator and silently headed up to our floor. Our paranoia was only furthered by the grating mechanical noises made by the old lift. It was, quite possibly, the worst apartment in the city, in the worst neighborhood, but it worked well.

When we got to our ‘home,’ he found the key in his pocket and unlocked the door. I walked in first and Davey followed, closing and locking the door behind him. He sighed heavily and leaned his thin frame against the old wood paneling.

“Ugh, Jade,” my boyfriend groaned. He looked up at the ceiling, his long fringe falling back, a few strands of black hair clinging to his cheek with sweat.

“The damned government’s trying to kill us all! Again!” Davey panted. “First it was the goddamn Parepin-slash-Opal shit in negative thirteen! And now, it’s this Red Horse Vector crap that they’re feeding us! The Star Chamber attack wasn’t bioterrorism, Jade! It. Was. The. Government!”

Davey finished his despairing and angry rant and I wrapped my arms around his slender body, feeling his soothing warmth against me. He leaned into my shoulder, sweat and tears dampening my thin shirt. I gently rubbed his back.

“Sh, sweetie, yeah, the government’s a bitch, but we’ll stay safe. Just remember what we were told by the others. We won’t get disappeared. I won’t let them take us away.”

Even though I was trying to reassure Davey, I was also trying to get myself to believe it. We won’t end up like Hunter and Adam, will we…?

We stood in silence for a few minutes before hearing something. Music. The real kind -- raw energy and real sound -- not the ultra-clean government tunes. Davey looked up at me, some hope in his dark brown eyes.

“This is just like…”

I smiled and cut him off with a quick kiss.

“Shall we?”

Davey wasted no time in answering me with a deep and passionate kiss. Spurred on by the music, our kiss quickly lead to other things. Soon enough, we were naked on our bed, twisting and writhing together in perfect unison.

He moaned and cried out my name, gripping my arms tightly. Davey felt heavenly to me and I reciprocated my desires by kissing and biting his neck and shoulders. We came close together, and tiredly, happily, laid next to each other.

Suddenly, there was silence. And then the sound of a gunshot. The echoes were quickly replaced by the screaming. It was a male voice -- not unlike the one that had been singing earlier. His desperate screams of pain resounded through the hallways and more shots followed. Automatically, my heart beat faster, pumping adrenaline through my veins and putting me on high alert.

“Oh my god,” Davey whispered, not in pleasure or ecstasy, but in fear. “Jade, they’re coming.”

I could practically hear Davey’s heartbeat as well -- in our closeness, I could certainly feel it. His paranoia was infectious, making me feel almost more scared than I was already. A second later, Davey sat up and got out of bed, and I stayed there, assuming he was just going to hide out water filters. Nothing he could do, none of our precautions, would dull my fear, my sense of endangerment.

But before Davey even made it to the kitchen, three armed men came into the room. All of them seemed identical, all wearing the same grayish green uniform, all three wearing the polished helmets. If I wasn’t scared before -- oh, and trust me, I was -- I was definitely scared now.

One of them grabbed Davey and pressed a gun to his temple. I got to my feet and stepped forward to help him, but I was quickly restrained by the second guard. The cold metal pressed against my temple, sending shivers down my spine. One wrong move then, and I’d be dead.

The third guard, or soldier, or whatever, stood in between us, a triumphant smirk on his face.

“You two are under arrest,” he stated, “for participating in un-American activities and immoral behavior.”

I heard Davey’s subdued whispers of “oh god, oh god, oh god,” and it took me all I had to not struggle against the arms that were holding me back to help him. The ‘soldier’ that held Davey back seemed to grab his wrists tighter and whispered a quiet threat in my boyfriend’s ear. Davey just nodded, scared, tears falling slowly down his face.

“Get dressed,” the third soldier -- the leader -- said. He gestured to the messy piles of our clothing. “Don’t bother with shirts--” He scornfully looked at Davey’s brightly inked chest and arms “--just underwear and pants will do.”

The soldier released his firm hold on my wrists and I quickly dropped to my knees to grab my boxers and jeans. I slid them on to my sticky legs with some difficulty. I was distracted, however, with thoughts of Davey. A quick glance toward him direction confirmed my fears -- he seemed scared, more frightened than I had ever seen him before. I bit my lip and focused again on my jeans.

Once we were both dressed, the guards grabbed us once more (it felt worse than the first time) and kept us in the same position as earlier. They pulled us out of our apartment, and down the hall. All was silent, and I noticed with dread that the elevator’s light was off. The guards lead us down the pitch black staircase to the first floor. The lobby was also deserted and the lights were off, but I could hear noises coming from outside.

We were forced outside and I shuddered, hating the feeling of the cold and broken concrete beneath my bare feet and the feeling of the hot air on my sweaty chest. All around us were the other residents of the apartments, all also restrained. Handcuffs were suddenly linked onto out hands and we were all blindfolded.

The painful ride to the airport and the even more agonizing flight to Guam all blurred together. I was kicked, shoved, and abused throughout the travel, and I recall throwing up a few times. For part of the long flight, I was mostly unconscious, but I could still feel the turbulence as the plane jolted.

We all knew where we were going, and yet none of us wanted to admit it to ourselves -- let alone everyone else. It was obvious, anyway. I was pretty sure that everyone who’d lived in that apartment building had a criminal record -- or it was assumed as much, because the apartments were at the edge of town, where the Opal addicts and hookers roamed the darkened streets like free men and where the resistance thrived.

Finally, we were brought back out into the night and driven to who-knows-where. A gruff and haughty voice, no doubt belonging to a guard, laughed cruelly as the road shifted from dirt to concrete.

“Welcome to the Extrajudiciary Federal Detainment Camp,” the man taunted.

I could hear Davey whimper pathetically from somewhere near me, and I could hear a few others start to cry. Tears fell down my cheeks as well.

We all had a good reason. This was the Exterminal. This was the end of the road. This was Hell and we were the damned. We’d be beaten, raped, starved, interrogated, and the we’d finally meet some gruesome death. None of us would live to tell the tale and the sooner we died, the better.

About an hour later, I was dragged through a building by my sore and probably broken arms, down countless steps, and shoved onto a dirty floor. Someone was pushed down next to me, and the cry of pain that followed was obviously Davey’s. Thank god, I found myself thinking. My blindfold fell off and I blinked a few times to get used to seeing again. We were in a large, yet still cramped, prison cell. Old electric lights flickered above us, creating a desolate and hopeless scene.

I stood up and walked over to my boyfriend, who was standing in a corner, crying harder then ever. Kissing his salty cheek, I whispered to him, “Davey, babe, don’t worry, kay?”

“Oh, he has plenty of reason to be worried,” a slightly hoarse voice, the voice of the singer from earlier, the voice of the man who’d been screaming in the apartment, told me. “We’ve been disappeared, we’re at the freaking Extrajudiciary Federal Detainment Camp. Do you get it?! This is the beginning of the end, dammit!”

I slowly turned to face him. He was bruised and bleeding, and he sat in a chair in the opposite corner. His eyes were dark and his hair was short and black. He also appeared to be around 10 years older than me.

“’Course, this is my third time here. I always manage to escape,” he added, meeting my gaze and smirking slightly.

“Wh-who are you?” I asked.

“The name’s Trent.”

“I’m Jade and this is my boyfriend, Davey.”

Trent just nodded and looked at us. “Is that why you’re…?”

“Partially for the gay sex, partially for the tattoos, partially for that flag we spray painted on the wall the other day.” I replied.

“Nice,” he laughed. “So…”

Trent looked between the two of us.

“You know, I can get us out of here. I can get all of us out of here. It’s pretty simple, actually.”

“…I’ve heard it’s impossible,” I responded skeptically, my hopes as low as ever.

“The trick is that it’s not,” Trent replied. “Just tell them you’ve been drinking the water. Tell them that the resistance is fake. Tell them the exact opposite of what you’ve been doing,” he continued. “We’ll be out soon.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah. I got my fist, I got my plan, I got survivalism.”

Excerpt from Chapter Four: The Good Soldier

"Gun fire in the street
Where we used to meet
Echoes out a beat and the bass goes
Bomb right over my head
Step over the dead..."
-- 'The Good Soldier' by Nine Inch Nails

Day eight of imprisonment.

Davey and I sat on the floor together, bleeding as silently as we could. We both looked like crap and we both felt like crap. By then, however, we had learned to take their beatings without question, and to answer their questions as "truthfully" as possible. Those were the two main things Trent had taught us -- to not protest and to believe our lies.

Trent. Well, he was interesting. All he would tell us was his full name -- Trent Reznor, apparently -- that he had been there before, and that he knew how to get out. He seemed meticulously paranoid around us, yet unfailingly submissive around the guards. He'd teach us how to evade death there when the guards weren't watching us too closely, but he played the part of a bored prisoner when they were.

My internal muses were interrupted as the grilled cell "door" was opened and a guard walked in, no doubt with our "dinner" (some undercooked meat from some part of some animal). I didn't look up to see our delightful caterer.

But Davey did. And his next words surprised me:
"Adam?!"

Survivalism, The Good Soldier, In This Twilight, & A Slip: A Year Zero Post.

So.
I've been working on Year Zero quite a bit lately (I'm considering hiatusing How Did You Think We'd Get By Without You?). And so here's a few things I've been up to in the world of writing.

Extended Survivalism (which will be YZ chapter three)
I've gotten one main criticism on Survivalism, on how it feels rushed. Truly, out of my three completed YZ chapters, it is the second-shortest (Hyperpower! is the shortest, at between 500-800 words, but that was to make a point. and it has Nils). So when I finally put up Year Zero, chapter three will not be the Survivalism we all know and love.
It will be the epic EXTENDED version of Survivalism!
Think of the current Survivalism one-shot as...the radio edit of a single. That works.
Y'know "MY HEART MY HEART MY HEART IS EMPTY TOO! WOOOOOOAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"

The Good Soldier (YZ chapter four)
I'm working on it. I started writing it last night. I assure you, it's gonna be epic.

In This Twilight/Zero-Sum (YZ chapters 15&16)
I'm actually writing these already. Zero-Sum is In This Twilight from Davey's POV, basically, but it's there to show a contrast. I left it open at the end for the Sequel which will happen when Trent releases YZ2. But it's also a good close if that never happens. So yay.

A Slip
Basically, the two months between Beginning of the End & Survivalism focusing on One Character, with a Hundam subplot. Totally set to The Slip by NIN.

Well, I'm here to kick ass and chew gum, and I'm all out of gum, so I'm gonna kick some writing ass now. Cya.

Mary Sues Suck

So I Sue-tested Trent, Jade, and Davey from Year Zero.

Davey got 14 -- Non-Sue
Jade got 12 -- Non-Sue
and Trent got 7 -- Anti-Sue
YAY!!
